Baby guacamole

May 2, 2012 by Stacey 18 Comments

To be brutally honest, Abby got more of this guacamole in her eyebrows and ears than she did in her mouth, but we’re making progress! She alternates between shoving it in her mouth with her fingers and stabbing at it with a spoon… so I’ll wager she’s completely normal at this stage.

We have an avocado tree that gives us avocados with not a lot of flavour going on. And when you’ve got a ton of sad avocados, you make guacamole, no? The fun part is doctoring it up to your liking, and for us it’s never really the same twice in a row.

I stop just short of dousing it in hot sauce and chili and give it to the baby. Then what’s left gets eyeball-searingly hot and shoved on corn chips or various Mexican-style dishes. Just the way I like it!

Ingredients:
1/2 avocado
3 chopped cherry tomatoes
tiny bit of chopped red onion
tiny bit of garlic
pinch salt
pinch cumin
squirt of lime juice
1 teaspoon sour cream (or leave it out to keep it vegan)
1 teaspoon sweet chilli sauce if your babe is adventurous

Directions:

1. Mash avocado with garlic, salt and cumin.

2. Add sour cream and sweet chilli sauce, if using, and mix.

3. Add lime juice, cherry tomatoes and red onion.

Serve in a bowl with a spoon, or on crackers. Or in a bowl with crackers for dipping. Or spread on tortillas… I don’t know, do whatever you want!

Oooh, had not thought of guac for bub. Nice idea! Perfect with the grissini bread sticks she has enamoured herself with lately (uh, leave some for Mum's cheese plate please!).

I would sell my soul for an avocado tree. I love guacamole, it's one of my favourite things! I love that you have chunks of tomatoes in there too. I think it should be mandatory

I'm way jealous that you have an avocado tree….

I'd have to agree with Sharon I'd do anything for an avo tree. Baby gauc, hmmmm I don't know how much of it would get to babes mouth with taste testing going on here.

Yum yum and yum. I LOVE guacomole and so does my Little Miss.  I would be very happy to eat a big bowl of it for dinner with corn chips, crackers or even veggie sticks. Going to try your version.  Thanks Stacey!  Amy xxx

I ADORE guac! Can never get enough. Was just back in Sydney and my word the avocados taste amazing there. Shame they're nothing but sad, brown and tasteless here in Hong Kong!! Great recipe xx

Sometimes I put coriander in too, and I think THAT should be mandatory!

Veggie sticks are a great idea! Way too healthy for me, but I could totally get Abby onto them 🙂
