Back from Byron

Isn’t it funny I’ve just sat down to write about my weekend in Byron and of course it’s post-uneaten dinnertime and tensions are high and even though you go away for a couple of days and miss the kids so much you’re that maudlin mama who has two drinks and spends the night accosting all other mothers with children you then come home and kids still don’t eat their dinner and shout in shopping centres and are basically annoying mosquito-type beings and you’re a bundle of conflicting emotions.

Yay!

But weddings are fun and public declarations of love are wonderful and travelling with your own love is something special.

So is the sun and full nights of sleep.

And early-morning wanderings and being somewhere different.

Not so fantastic is plane delays except when you know in advance and you head to the nearest beach and have a beer at the Surf Club and spend more time in the great outdoors than the poorly-carpeted airport lounge.

With exceptional chips.

I really had a great time while we were away. Probably the worst one for missing the kids (and I had to be careful with the alcohol intake because a hangover whilst being so far away from the kids may sound like a perfect hangover situation but actually just makes me crazy), but so good for having a mental break from all the busy-ness that’s gone on this year. I am not stoked to be so busy but it’s one of those necessary evils at the mo that will end up being totally worth it… I hope.

The girls had a blast while we were gone, my Dad treated them to a couple of things he used to treat my sister and me too when we were young’uns so I dare say he’d have loved it too. It was actually real cute hearing him talk about it and knowing it must have given him feeeeeelings.

This has been a strange year but strange in a good way not strange in a bad way so I’m giving it a tentative thumbs up while actually FREAKING OUT that it’s May and I still don’t feel like I’ve got my head on straight. I don’t want to get to December and feel the same way, so it’s off for an early night for me. Hashtag self care and all that.

Dude! I’m here! Legit on your blog leaving a comment! I almost emailed you last week so I could comment on all your posts & say HAPPY FREAKING BIRTHDAY ( I turned 38 a few weeks back too! Look at us hitting our late 30’s!) but I thought I needed to push my stalker tendencies away. Ha!
Anyways, I’m here now so let’s hope it’s for good!
And Byron used to be my spiritual home. Total wanker talk but as a kid, teen & adult I spent so much time there I honestly thought I’d end up living there. But nope. I ended up in bloody Perth!! But Bryon still has a place in my heart. Forever.
