Dawson or Pacey?

Yes folks, it’s that time again – where we drag up the heartache of the past and deep-dive into why exactly Dawson’s hair is so terrible and why nobody in Capeside can get it together: it’s Dawson’s Creek Day!

Well, it’s actually 20 years today since it premiered in the US (cannot for the life of me remember when it arrived here), and that is a long-ass time. I was eighteen, wearing rainbow bucket hats, reading Vonnegut, and getting emotional over songs from Les Miserables, and Dawson and Joey were exploring their true feelings for each other as they changed from childhood best friends to teenage something-mores. Well, Dawson was exploring Jen and Joey was exploring the pages of her diary.

Once everyone entangled themselves deeper in their web of complex relationships and went on to college I was long gone, but did revisit the kids of the creek on solo Tuesday nights when Lunchbox was at footy training in about 2010. I had borrowed the box set and would binge episode after episode while eating instant ramen in my pyjamas. It was then I found out what happened to Dawson’s Dad, if Joey and Dawson ever… you know… did it, and who ended up with whom at the end. Or unexpectedly died from mysterious and undiagnosed heart issues, leaving behind a fatherless infant and a string of broken hearts.

So today, on the illustrious anniversary, I present to you our latest podcast episode discussing the finer points of the teen dream drama. You’ll hear exactly how I felt about Andie McPhee, how confused Carly gets about Grams’s life choices, and whether either of us are Team Pacey or Team Dawson. I, of course, like to take the contentious route.

So tell me, where you Pacey or Dawson? Jen or Joey? Was Audrey even necessary? And whatever happened to Eddie? Sweet, sweet Eddie.

You can also find is in your favourite podcast app, or on iTunes. We’re Sweet Teen Club. Pleased to meet you.

100% Pacey. Always. I had him pegged from Season 1, episode 1. They had so much unsaid tension. It was just really subtle! Do you remember the build up to DC being launched in Aus? I bought the girlfriend magazine diary for that year and there was all this pre show stories and articles in there. Very “Gabbo is coming”. I swear that’s how I got hooked!

Oh god no, I must have missed all of that! I loved those girlfriend diaries though.
