Do a good thing today.

June 4, 2013 by Stacey 13 Comments

school-300x255You might know my mate Cate has an orphanage in Bali. This blog helps to raise money for that when and wherever I can.

But around this time of year, Foundation 18 needs a bulk injection of cash to help fund the Education Outreach program Cate runs – enough money to send 70 children to school. These are for the children in the area that don’t quite need to go to the orphanage, but are financially disadvantaged enough that they can’t make school on their own.

It only costs $65 to send one child to school for a whole year.

that $65 goes to administration/building fees on enrolment and the annual tuition for each child, while also covering things like uniforms, stationery, backpacks, learning resources and costs of excursions and incursions where appropriate. Sometimes they even go as far as to contribute to transport costs to get a child to and from school, and in extreme cases will also deliver a monthly quota of food staples to ensure that the child is well nourished and able to learn.

I like to think there are a bunch of you out there who won’t hesitate to give to something like this. I also know there are some of you who would love to help, but can’t afford it (In that case, feel free to donate even five dollars – it all helps!). Together, we can do Good Things.

If it interests you, all proceeds from sales of Cate’s Etsy stores go direct to Foundation 18, so you might like to help in that way. If you’re interested in cool stuff from your home, check out Cabo Pickles (I bought the Hoop Art that says “Home is Wherever I’m With You”, swoon), or for you crafty folk, Skull Buttonry has some pretty awesome stuff for your endeavours. There will also be an auction on Facebook soon to raise extra funds for school (I donated a crochet blanket last year, and am trying to figure out what to donate this time around!) so please like the page here for updates and when the auction will start.

Thanks so much, guys. I really love that we can make a difference.

$65 is really just, almost nothing. The mind boggles! To think most mums here pay that on school SHOES alone each year.

How awesome are you, Mrs Veg? Thanks for giving the school fund a plug. One thing I’m really stoked about is that for the first time in our village’s entire history we now have GIRLS going to HIGH SCHOOL! Can you even believe it? None of them would be in high school if Foundation 18 hadn’t started. It’s just considered a “waste of money” to send them. Gives me a little squeee every time I think of it 🙂

Every time I think of all the good you do in this world, I get a little squee. You are making a difference… that’s gotta be rad. (Also hard, exhausting and occasionally thankless, but fucking rad).
