Are you a Kate fan? Know someone who is? (ok, besides me!) Treat them – or yo’self – to some royally-approved items this Christmas that are not only available to the general public but also within the more familiar non-royal budgets… I don’t know about you but I so very rarely find myself with a casual ten grand to drop on an outfit.
Kicking off our Kate-themed gift ideas: bags! I’m known for buying one quality bag and then wearing it to death (often secondhand, on eBay) and the more solid and well-made, the better.
Cath loves herself a little Orla Kiely, and has quite a few pieces from the Irish designer in her (what I imagine is a massive closet). The whimsical designs are pretty fun, and the vintage 70s-but-modernised is always eye-catching. I like that the designs are pretty as well as bold.
Orla Kiely the clothing brand ceased trading earlier this year, sadly, but that means discounts on their lovely items in addition to the Black Friday sales across the globe. This is the last of them!
(ps any orders over $100 from Debenhams gets you free shipping…)
Orla Kiely – Pink scalloped floral print cross body bag (Now $84.60, down from $169.20)
Orla Kiely – Multi-coloured ‘Multi Stem’ print shopper bag (Now $163.80, down from $234.00)
I love the size of this one, perfect for carting around the endless snacks and pens and bits and bobs I always seem to end up with.
No. 1 Jenny Packham – Silver glitter clutch bag (Now$48.96, down from $61.20)
It also comes in gold, navy, and rose gold, all of which I love. Kate has a couple of glitter clutches – including this Jimmy Choo one she took to the BAFTA Brits to Watch event in LA in 2011 (with that amazing Alexander McQueen).
Ok, shoe time! I’ll admit, I have a ridiculous collection of Kate-style shoes (it’s a long story but let’s say eBay REALLY brought the jackpot to me one afternoon last year), but one actually affordable pair she wears often are these classic canvas Superga sneakers. Incidentally, the brand was a favourite of Princess Diana, too.
Lucky for you, they’re currently 20% off.
And for evening? (or hell, washing the dishes, a little sparkle is guaranteed to make domestic drudgery slightly more bearable)
No. 1 Jenny Packham – Silver glitter ‘Polly’ high stiletto heel T-bar sandals (Now $85.68, down from $122.40)
These actually remind me of Kate’s Jimmy Choo Vamp sandals she repeats fairly often – even pairing them at this Tusk Trust event with a super-sparkly Jenny Packham (and the BAFTA McQueen I mentioned earlier).
Need an outfit so you can look fly as hell in your Nan’s kitchen on Christmas day? Christmas party? Just for shits and giggles? One of Kate’s go-to high-end fancy evening wear favourites, Jenny Packham, has a diffusion line at Debenhams which is priced significantly lower than the usual JP offerings. Some of my favourite Kate outfits are all thanks to Jenny.
Check these out:
No. 1 Jenny Packham – Navy floral lace ‘Lizbeth’ round neck short sleeve knee length shift dress (Now $53.46, down from $178.20 – BARRRRGAIN)
No. 1 Jenny Packham – Light blue embellished chiffon ‘Liliana’ V-neck full length evening dress (Now $75.60, down from $252.00 yes really!)
So floaty and nice for these hot Christmases we get! This one reminds me of the Jenny Packham Kate wore to the Spectre premiere, but nicer (oh look! The Jimmy Choos again!). I totally hated that Spectre dress though… too much fabric, maybe? I don’t know, folks loved it but I was very much THANK YOU, NEXT.
Meanwhile, can we talk about the amazing Robinson Pelham blue topaz and diamond chandelier earrings she wore to that premiere? they were an eye-watering £14,300, and Carole actually wore them to Kate and William’s wedding. Robinson Pelham also made the acorn-themed earrings Kate wore that day.
Ok now for your face – Kate’s wedding day look was shared in the days following the event, and pretty much everything is easily available (except the gardenia-scented Illuminum perfume, which seems to be a one-off. Bummer!). Plenty of these brands and colours she still wears.
A cult classic, it hides a multitude of sins. A favourite of Meghan, too, who has said “It blends, it’s compact and if you’ve worked a 17-hour day and have nothing else on, you will still look relatively alive. Relatively.”
If it’s still out of stock when you go to shop, the Doll Eyes version is similar!
And of course, you need the Chatty Feet Kate Middletoe socks no Cathy fan should ever be without! Get them at Beth’s Baby Mac shop Add to Cart. And they’ll cost you less than a lobster! Perfect Xmas gift.
