Shh… don’t tell anyone, but this immune-boosting purple smoothie for kids is actually a green smoothie in disguise!
Well, it sort of is. And my kid loves green smoothies, so she’d be happy to drink it any time in any way. But it’s just another version of filling up tiny tummies with lots of vitamin c and healthy nutrients to help them face cold and flu season head on. For us older folk, I use this remedy that I absolutely swear by, and for tiny babes, there is a nice puree here (although they’d be cool with this smoothie on a spoon too).
Lots of vitamin C and antioxidant-rich berries (I use the frozen kind) make up a fair portion of this smoothie, which is boosted by Loving Earth Rainbow Superfood blend (not sponsored!), a mix of Macqui and Acai (antioxidant), gubinge and camu camu (vitamin C), and AFA (protein), which is a pretty simple way of getting the most nutrient bang for your buck. Sometimes I just use Macqui powder, but the result is the same – a purplish hue and a pretty delicious drink!
Immune-boosting purple smoothie for kids
Per person, I’d do:
1 banana
1 kiwi fruit
1 handful spinach or kale
1 squeeze lemon
1 dollop of organic raw honey (for its antibacterial properties, leave out for little guys under age 1)
1 teaspoon Rainbow Superfood Blend (or another superfood high in vitamin C)
1 cup berries
1 cup coconut water (I use Loving Earth coconut water powder and regular water when I’m out of fresh, or nondairy milk)
And blend for a vitamin C bombshell. Enjoy!
My kids still drink this happily all these years later, and even let me sneak in a few other goodies now and then (like extra probiotics and almond butter for omega 3). It’s easy to whip up daily or every two days, just to keep on top of old and flu season.
I love Loving Earth too (not a sponsored comment)!!!! Is that a one-person blender?
Oh I can do two or three in it… it’s just the little jug thingamagig that came with my stick blender, and I find it pretty useful!
I really gotta get back on the smoothie train but I just find it so hard in winter to drink them…poor excuse, must try harder!
Oh I’m hearing ya! That’s when you make soup…
I like a smoothie especially when there is only good stuff involved and no milk n=being lactose intolerant is a pain ,but I actually don’t like milk and never have I think your body knows these things without you knowing ,like when I need vitamin B I crave vegemite and when I need protein I crave an egg sandwich, funny hey Stacey.
So awesome that you’re so in tune with your body!
Where would one buy Rainbow Superfood?
Right here! https://lovingearth.net/products/96/rainbow-superfood-blend
I did post the link to it further up in the post, but not again in the recipe, sorry dude! xo
I cannot wait to purchase a blender to make this. Saving up for one at the moment and this may be my first recipe 🙂
I wish someone would make this for me right now!
I am so jet lagged…a smoothie and a nap is exactly what I need!
Can this be frozen? My son (just turned 3) won’t drink shakes, but for some reason, if we freeze and call it an “ice pop” he’s OK with it!
Ooh yes, it makes a lovely ice pop!
Made this this morning for my five year old and she loved it! You can’t taste the Kale and the kiwi was a great added flavor. Thanks again for the recipe !!
You’re so welcome – glad you liked it!
I want my kids to drink smoothies but they turn their nose up even though it looks amazing and tastes awesome. I will get them eventually.
Curious to know why you use coconut water as opposed to coconut milk? I have been using the later of late. Is it just higher in nutrients? x
I think at the time I was just experimenting with putting coconut water in smoothies because I hated the taste of it on its own! I mostly use almond milk or coconut milk these days, only because I am more likely to have them on hand. Having said that I do think the health benefits of coconut water and coconut milk are slightly different (as ingredients differ) but I wouldn’t know much about which one was better 🙂
where can one obtain ‘rainbow super foodblend”?
Im from the US and I cant find it anywhere.
Thank You.
