Kid food: Lunch

August 4, 2014 by Stacey 20 Comments

kid-food-lunch-egg-sandwiches

A throwback picture from our old house – the deck was so warm outside! I daren’t step foot outside just yet. Too damn cold.

Anyway, we had egg sandwiches (Bigs had peanut butter because she was going through “the phase”), and fruit. My best egg sandwich of all time rules here.

kid-food-lunch-yogurt-and-preserves

Greek yogurt with homemade strawberry preserves.

kid food ideas

Quorn nuggets, bread roll, sauce for dipping, salad, and fruit. They still won’t really do cucumber and tomato, although I managed to convince Bigs one day by saying it was loud and crunchy. It’s not often she’ll eat it, but it’s better than never!

kid-2-food-lunch---sandwich-banana-avocado-

Peanut butter + banana (with that damn tomato – I kept trying!), and Smalls had avocado on Cruskit with cottage cheese and banana. She wouldn’t go near that plate with a ten-foot pole nowadays.

kid food ideas

A little bit of leftover queso fundido dip on tortillas, rolled up and sliced + sweet potato cubes.

What have your littles been loving for lunch lately?

My little fussy pants had ice-cube tray dinner last night and he actually ate some carrot sticks and a piece of cucumber. I added some walnuts and pumpkin seeds and some crunchy roasted gnocchi, which is the bomb. He’ll also eat just about anything if I put it in a toasted sandwich so I tend to do that when he’s at home for lunch.

my friend’s step-mother makes $73 every hour on the computer. She has been out of a job for 7 months but last month her pay was $7220 just working on the computer for a few hours. Read more on this web sitePAYRAP.COM………….

I remember the day I tried to hide roast pumpkin puree in a sandwich. FAIL.

Today the boy had a cheese sandwich, some pear & some ham. Most days it’s some sort of variation of this. Sambo’s get swapped for crackers, the fruit gets changed up, I put some nuts on there or some leftover meat from dinner. Or I might pull a spinach & ricotta roll from the freezer, or a veggie muffin. He still can’t tolerate much dairy so yogurt is a once a week thing but cheese seems to be fine. I need to mix it up a bit but he’s being a fussy bugger so I’m a bit ” just let him have what you know he eats” headspace right now.

Mine eats ‘green rice’ by the bucket full! A friend of mine gave me the recipe and it is originally from Gwyneth Paltrow’s cook book would you believe? Basically just shredded kale, brown rice, red onion & garlic and a shit load of soy sauce. Yummola. Great with a tin of tuna stirred through too!

Avocado and cottage cheese is a reliable fave, with some chia and sesame seeds stirred in for some hidden goodness. Miss nearly-2 loves plain pasta with some vintage cheese, but when I pop a spoonful of hidden-veg tomato sauce in she definitely notices! We are exploring scrambled eggs and omelettes, and she loves zucchini slice and little pinwheels… Trying our best lately to segway to the ‘family meal’ idea, but she still has her version of our dinner. Last night it was baked potato with veg chilli, tonight it was stirfry soba noodles. We will get there.. I hope!

It’s so cold here I make lots of warm food. This winter the children’s favourite is slow cooked chicken and chickpeas tagine with rice. Mr seven has eaten this all his life but just recently states he hates chickpeas! Little zucchini fritters with sweetcorn and pikelets are always a hit for my 18 month old. Eczema has flared up so no dairy at the moment. I am a lactard and have passed this on:)
