Mother’s Day Gift Ideas

Because somehow it’s actually May in like, five minutes, and that means giving a high five to mums across the nation for Mother’s Day (and let’s be honest… us too!). I struggle to figure out what to get my ma when the time comes, but I have either bought her these items or am eyeing them off for my Daughter of the Year 2016 efforts cos I know she’d love them.

For Christmas a few years ago I gave my mum the Original Ubercircle from Uberkate, one of my favourite jewellery peeps, and I pretty much topped out my present-giving abilities that year. I’m pretty sure nothing will ever come close again! I had it engraved with the names of her grandchildren and I can still remember her massive grin when she opened the box. Prime gift material, this one.

I totally dig this Oversized Scarf in Desert Flower from Bohemian Traders, because it’s one of those pieces that can be used for anything. I love taking them when I travel to hide sundry stains and wrinkles and also to use as a blanket, and it’s large enough to actually provide some warmth as a cool weather scarf when properly bunched around the neck. My ma is into this floaty kind of business so I know she’d be stoked… but she’s also the kind to use it as some kind of interior decorative thingo so it would do like, quadruple duty in her hands. It’s also light so would be cheap to post (or have sent straight from the site) which is helpful because I’m now Interstate Daughter.

Speaking of light, I also spotted these crystal-beaded hoop earrings, which I love. I definitely considered getting them for myself, but totally just got the khaki utility vest vest so we’ll see. Maybe. (Probably).

For the civic-minded of you, you might like to check out the Oxfam shop, which always has incredible stuff that gives back in the best way. I’ve got my eye on this bamboo salad bowl from Oxfam or perhaps this very sweet heart incense burner hand carved using traditional techniques from India.

Because they’re a staple of mine: Queen B pure beeswax pillar candle.

And if you’re brave enough, a La Mav Mother’s Day pack from Biome Eco Stores looks pretty good (La Mav has beautiful products), but if you don’t have the kind of relationship where you can give your mum wrinkle cream, then perhaps something else might be less stressful!

And because I know this will be a winner no matter what, a 12 pack of Norfolk Rise Merlot. It’s currently 50% off (save like, $108!) soooooo there’s definitely on en route to my house right now. Sorry not sorry.

So what’s on your list? Do you like to think outside the box? Is wine your fallback too?

Wine is the fall back for ALL five of my kids so Mother’s Day ends up making me feel like an alcoholic when they turn up with the bottles in their hands. I want one of those UberKate circles with all their names engraved. It’d put a grin on my face too. Perhaps I should send this link to my daughter.

    Great suggestions Stacey!

I have an original Ubercircle I love it! I got it for my 40th 5yrs ago on monday! I think I will have to talk to my brother and we can give that to my mum for her 65 in 2yrs time! Of course if I mentioned it now my brother would think I am a big nutter he can’t plan anymore than a week out! Seriously, I asked him two weeks ago if he and his family want to come here to see our parents on mother’s day plus to have cake for his son’s bday 27/4, mine on 2/5, my twins 5/5, mother’s day and our mum’s 16/5 so if we all see mum mother’s day that covers 5 birthdays in one go! Two weeks out was too hard and couldn’t possibly know what they are doing so if I suggested a gift two years out he is likely to tell me I am an idiot lol.

Aside from my family dramas, I love all your suggestions!
    Kit xoxo

Nope he still won’t talk about it. I will get my dad to ask him and get some sort of decision out of him!
I also have a beautiful letter ring that Kate sent me with a semi colon on it! It is a one of a kind piece she is truly a beautiful person!

Great ideas. I’m forever dropping uber hints to the hubster – he just hasn’t gotten the hint or the goods yet… But I live in hope! This year, I’m giving mum the gift of me (albeit 10 days late) as I’m going home to the mother country to spend time with mother. That time together = priceless!

Great pics! A scarf that can be used to decorate an interior is an absolute winner! Can’t go wrong with uberkate either! xx

We don’t celebrate Mother’s Day here. Which is a bit shit because WINE.

Oh, also when I say ‘here’ I’m not referring to some strange Hobart custom, I just mean our place. I’ve never really seen the point. But you know what they say, “Wine changes minds”.

Shout out to a fellow Hobartian.
This year my husband bought me a tripod for my camera. He doesn’t actually know he bought it because I kind of ordered and paid for it myself.
Which is the best kind of present, really ;p

Excellent idea. Perhaps all the yarn hidden in a box under the bed might pop out “Oh darling, what a spectacular gift!”

I just told husband that for mothers day I wanted bacon, and for them to drive me to IKEA and let me browse with NO COMPLAINS. Plus Cinnebuns.

    I’m pretty easy.

Wine is definitely the fall back for my mum because I know she just LOVES it as much as I do. The mother-in-law is way more difficult though – not much of a drinker.

I do try to think outside the box, but am a bit stumped this year. Quite like some of the Oxfam homewares available though – thanks for the link!

I was refusing to buy my own present this year… that was until I found a top and clutch I wanted, so bought and handed it to the Mr. Loving those earrings. Candles are my normal go to. There has been much wine consumption here the past fortnight.

I love getting candles because everyone wants them but they’re so expensive so we kind of just end up not getting them. but we should have them, we should!
