School holiday snacks: ideas to keep the kids fed without losing your mind

September 20, 2016 by Stacey 6 Comments

I know, kids are hungry. Somehow more out of school than they are in.

One of my friends with three boys said she was going to have to stock up at Costco before the holidays started because her kids were only going to tear through her kitchen mouth first for two straight weeks.

Being a newbie rookie school mum I’m learning as I go how to best manage school holidays and food is the first thing I turn to – both as an activity and to ensure that small children’s bottomless stomachs get filled repeatedly day after day after day. One day I will pack lunches just as I do for school and they can go nuts with those but like many mums out there I’m heartily sick of looking at them. Yes, already!

These are my go-tos, both for lunchboxes, after school, and those long, seemingly endless school holiday days. At least I can make them in my pyjamas… these slower days with nowhere to go by 9am suit me right down to the ground.

I am going to show these to Boo as he has developed an interest in cooking and he LOVES you, obvs. He is rather partial to BabyMac’s cinnamon teacake so maybe he will give one with apple a whirl! HUZZAH!

Mr 4’s kindy goes by school terms too, so it’s been a whole new world for us this year. I swear my boys eat more than me most days and I feel like I’m constantly getting food for them, so I’ll definitely be trying out a few of these recipes. I’m thinking the yoghurt pikelets might be perfect for morning tea tomorrow.

I’m so glad you made them! I’m going to do them again tomorrow, and a banana cake or muffins tonight. Its the only way to stay on top of it all!
