Snippets of what I love about the new house

April 10, 2014 by Stacey 19 Comments

Next week, we will have been here three months. I’m still working on bits and pieces of the house, but am enjoying it thoroughly. Until I get the hang of this styling business (and possibly until my kids stop shoving play-dough into the windowpanes and drawing on the walls), we’re taking it just as it is. But so much of it makes me happeeee.

Our view is pretty rad, and there’s nowhere better to see it than out on the balcony in the warm sunshine.

I also love our formal dining room, which is pretty much a non-negotiable in a time-capsule Italian nonna palace that we’re in. One day I’ll show you all of it in all its lace-curtained glory.

We ended up removing the rug that’s under the dining table as it wouldn’t sit evenly on the carpet. So far we’ve had no catastrophic dinner spills…new-house-early-sun

I love the way the morning sun hits the hill before it reaches us.

new-house-evening-light-on-desk I love the way the afternoon light hits the dining room.new-house-evening-light

And how it lights up the hill. We also have spectacular views of the sun setting (which I’ve shared on Instagram a couple of times), and any storm clouds.

new-house-play-area

The little dining nook in the kitchen which had a small kitchen table + window seat in it before we arrived. Perfect place for kiddos to eat, create, + play. They’ve also got a little high chair for their dollies, and a small wooden ironing board. Pepper particularly enjoys playing with the Honeybake Mixer set the lovely Lisa sent to us from Oliver’s Twisty Tales last year, and Abby likes to wash her little pots and pans, and paint her hands instead of the paper.

new-house-sparkly-night-view

Can’t accurately photograph, but you get the picture – twinkly lights as far as the eye can see all across the landscape. You can see it from the lounge, dining, kitchen, + master bedroom windows.

alphabet-jump-chubby-baby-legs

A HUGE back yard that is like a mini botanical gardens. There are endless rose bushes, two levels of grass + lovely plants, and a huge stretch of concrete perfect for playing Alphabet Jump, writing birthday messages, drawing, and playing hopscotch.

And this epic, epic tree in the back yard with a gorgeous little courtyard underneath. It is utterly divine, and this is half the view I have looking out the kitchen window when I wash the dishes. The kids think it is a total wonderland, and I agree. So many places for them to run and hide and play, and that table + chairs we got on Gumtree was a bargain. The leaves are starting to turn brown now on most of the bushes outside, and the top of this tree is starting to turn too. I’ve been taking a picture out my bathroom window each month so I can watch the changes – much like this series that Lucy from Attic 24 did of the landscape outside her attic window in country England.

Welcome to our new home!

Your house looks full of character & that backyard! And how bloody cute are chubby toddler legs?!
When we bought our first house it was over 20 years old & even though we renovated lots of it I craved a new house with smooth surfaces, clean lines & more space. Almost six years ago we bulit the big new house on the one acre block & now I crave an old house with character! Go figure!
