So somehow it’s March?

March 6, 2019 by Stacey 3 Comments

As I sit here tucked up in bed with a cup of tea, the rain is lashing down on a world where the sun is not yet up. We slept with the window open and the cool breeze wafting in, and we have a top of 17 today.

I can’t tell you how fucking thrilled I am with this whole setup.

Autumn is absolutely trying to make itself known in Melbourne and I am here for it. The scorching temperatures of earlier in the week (not to mention the horrific bushfires of the season) really threw all of us. It was like summer wanted one last hurrah in a time where we’re all poised, ready to put a cosy jumper on at the earliest possible opportunity. We were not ready for this.

But this morning is delivering the goods in the best way, and while there’s still a bit of warmth around yet, it’s the good kind, the mild kind I like the best.

A much nicer morning than yesterday, when we all woke up to the news Luke Perry had died from complications of a massive stroke, and that Keith Flint had taken his own life. A real blow to 90s kids everywhere, and two good fellas gone too soon.

My favourite story about Keith was that once he was super-late to a gig and nobody had a clue where he was. He looked like a hard bastard, probably like he was off his tits on disco bikkies 24/7 given his choice of music and lifestyle, and most likely somewhere frightening old ladies with his multicoloured face full of metal, but in reality he’d just lost track of the time because HE WAS IN A NEARBY PARK WATCHING THE SQUIRRELS.

I can’t say I have been doing the same (owing to the fact we have no squirrels, though I did see a massive possum very early this morning), but I did have a very real need to head to the bush near my place and just be in it. I get this feeling a lot.

Look what’s happening to the plane trees around here though! They well and truly got the autumn memo. They usually start to turn the second week in February, but by then this year they were already settled in goldentown and starting to leave thanks to the heatwaves. Plenty of them now are just like cardboard, as thirsty as Harry looks every time he casts his eyes in Meghan’s direction.

P A R C H E D 🤤

Did I mention I have a new royal Instagram account? Yeah, you’re gonna need that. Also if you haven’t seen, the latest Throne Rangers episode is up, chock-full of royal goodies and a behind-the-scenes video of Beth and me in Sydney hunting them down.

Other than all that, it’s been pretty huge around here of late. Massive work things (which would explain my absence here, although I write 10 blog posts in my head every day), kids adjusting to school, a new kitten (more on that later), gymnastics, our internet shitting itself, family visits, school council, and even a trip to South Melbourne market over the weekend to have some dresses altered (we <3 Ida!). It’s been A TIME, I can tell you.

Anyway, the aforementioned work situation has a to-do/deadline list that would frighten several grown men all at once, so I’d better get back to it. Hope you’ve all had a cracking couple of weeks!
