Ok so not exactly tea, but pretty tea cups! Besides, it’s chocolate rice pudding and who doesn’t want that? You can get the recipe here, along with three other ideas for leftover rice because we all know it’s impossible to figure out how much to make and you’re there with 82 bags in the freezer and a bowlful in the fridge.
Well I finally got my sick-of-winter-wish and now Melbourne is sweltering through a heatwave. Of course I’m overjoyed, but also a. slightly concerned because our earth is melting, and b. tomorrow will be 17 degrees and I will barely cope.
We sailed through two weeks of school holidays with everyone home (including teacher husband) and my house has never been cleaner. Especially since I figured out sometime two weeks ago I vacuumed up a glow-in-the-dark plastic star and that’s why the carpet looks worse after I vacuum it than it did before. The kids have been swimming a couple of times, I ate several small countries’ worth of food at both the AFL and NRL grand final parties, and started three books, finishing none. Great holidays all round!
It’s eerily quiet here now with only one squib home, the other at kinder and dad away on school camp. I’ve got plenty of work to catch up on, and plenty of washing to fold and put away (ughdsjfkoirgjres/pigfjwlskdjfljglfdkjg ds *over it emoji*), and plenty of frugal meals to plan now that we have to buy a new car as my poor old one was written off by the assessor. I got very, very used to owning that car outright for many years now, so the thought of having extra debt gives me the willies. Luckily I am PRO EXPERT LEVEL at penny pinching, so we shan’t starve. I also loathe shopping (for anything) with all the fury of a grounded teenage boy, so that helps. If only I could be more ninja at op-shopping… living in HipsterCentral means all the cool cats get to the good stuff first and I only ever end up sifting through 4 sets of tongs and a 25th Anniversary plate.
I also, somehow, managed to fall into the trap these holidays of browsing “news” sites I normally avoid – full of fat-shaming, slut-shaming, Carole-Middleton-shaming, stupid, vile, disgusting stories that make my blood boil. I won’t be going back there, I know it’s traffic that enables them to say “oh but we’re just giving the public what they want”, so they can’t have mine because I am the public and that’s not what I want. Why did I go back? Useless brain rot. It really does worry me that just about everyone gets put through the wringer on these sites – even if every other avenue is reporting it (mostly) accurately and without cruelty, these articles are still live on the internet, somewhere, still googlable, still there telling lies about people. UGH UGH UGH. As my good friend Stephen Fry said once, “I mean, come on. Seriously shut up. Shut so up and go so dreadfully and entirely away.”
ENTIRELY AWAY, UGH.
Speaking of going away, I’m going to do that right now. Have a great one, guys x
