I’ve got a very strong Yorkshire tea with one (ok and a bit) sugar and I’m coming to you live from my bed. This is very much part of the “These are the Golden Days” parenting situation: The children have been fed and are downstairs amusing themselves with a new train track and jigsaw puzzles. I can, after the whirlwind of babies and toddlers, take a slow start to the morning sometimes. I fully intend to drag this out for as long as I can get away with today.
Speaking of slow, it was quite the lazy Sunday yesterday. After a Saturday that included IKEA (no shit, I really went on the weekend despite my better judgement), I did pretty much nothing but put together a shelving unit, rearrange the childrens’ toys on it, and sit down for hours getting lost in Michelle from Hugo and Elsa‘ s new book A Table in the Orchard. The desire to move to the country has been OFF THE CHARTS lately and this book is just crack to my woodfired-stove-wanting-self. So many good recipes too.
Today will entail taking back a heater I bought on Saturday that is as weak as standing next to a freshly-boiled kettle in the hopes of getting warm, sourcing a birthday cake for one of Lunchbox’s co-workers, and a trip over to Coburg to see my auntie who is house-sitting. It’s been really nice to reconnect with my Victorian family – people I hardly saw when I lived in Queensland/New South Wales/Western Australia because everybody is just so far away all the bloody time. She’s just come back from a couple of years in Arizona and has some very funny stories to tell.
Last week I even got to see my Dad and brother and sister who live in Sydney, and squeeze relentlessly my new little nephew. Lookit – isn’t he cute? Cluckiness level: Extreme.
The girls just came in delivering me presents of a drawing of a rainbow and a broken pen. I shall treasure them forever.
Nothing much else on this week except experimenting with kombucha, trying these bread rolls, this foccacia, carrying on with my blanket (i’ve gone one more row on my infinity scarf to go, might do that before I head out today cos it looks cold out there), watching The Chef’s Table on Netflix (the first episode on Massimo Bottura had me HOOKED), catching up on the Masterchef episodes I missed when I was in Sydney, and doing a little bit of writing. I love the slower pace of the autumn/winter period… I just wish I’d nailed that heater purchase first go. Bugger.
I have two little monkeys snuggled up in my bed with their teddies now, so it’s time to go and tackle the day. Hope it’s a good one!
Nice tea cup 🙂
Isn’t Michelle’s book just the BEST.
Have a lovely week sweetheart.
xx
Do you know, I use it EVERY time now? You are the best x
I have a bottle of kombucha in my fridge from 6 months ago. It just sits there reminding me of the day when I thought there wasn’t anything better to drink. Good luck with it. Enjoy bed! We are headed to Bunnings.
Ha I hope it’s ok. I hope it tastes better than Bunnings anyway!
We are addicted to The Chef’s Table in our house as well. Best show!
Isn’t it! I can’t wait to watch the rest.
On the weekend I promised my children I would make that pumpkin and fennel lasagna of yours again … I’ll be winning as a mother! Thank you
haha you should definitely do it – so good this time of year!
You will love that foccacia , it’s so good.
And Michelle’s book? I already wanted to move to Tasmania but now I just want to be Michelle. My fave book so far this year.
I think Tasmania might be just that bit too cold for me, but country Vic – definitely!
Lovely jubbly. I very much look forward to the day where I am not required to get up and get the baby out of the cot, change the baby’s nappy, boob to baby, feed baby breakfast etc…etc… Well, I don’t look forward to it, I know the days are long, years are short blah blah blah but y’know…relentlessness. God bless weekends where at least I get husband to do a few of those things (not the boobing, although that could be handy). You should definitely come live in the country with us, although my husband is often growling at me for encouraging that sort of thing, too many people he says, neighbours too bloody close! Ha.
Hahah I promise I’d live just far enough away! It is relentless. And I felt like with two that the end was never night. And then all of a sudden it was! I’m going to enjoy it before I get to the stage where I get nostalgic and miss it. If I ever do…
Slow mornings are lovely. Mine are towards the end of the week because Esther goes to Kindy.
ha kinder means I’ve got to be up and out of the house by 8.15 – no lazing about in bed then! They’re so nice aren’t they 🙂
The Chef’s Table looks good!
Off to download now.
Oh man, it’s rad. You’ll want to eat ALL OF THE CHEESE
Ohh so lovely! I’ve become a tad obsessed with Alex Polizzi’s Secret Italy series on The Lifestyle Channel. Tonight she went to the Amalfi Coast and I was instantly transported back to our honeymoon. Such a special place. I want to go back again some day. Though I fear I may not leave. And that might not be a bad thing… x (coming to you live from my couch)
Sometimes I really feel as though I need pay tv!
aahh, kombucha goodness, hope you can work it into your life as it really is good stuff.
Here’s to more of those slow mornings lady.
I think it’s just time to make it instead of buy it all the bloody time! It took me a while to find a scoby 🙂
