Well now, what a long weekend! Thanks Queenie!
I may or may not have a repository of royal recipes on this site (Eton mess, William’s favourite Banana Flan, the Queen’s favourite Jam Pennies, her favourite Dundee Cake coming up, which you can see below), but I spent a hell of a lot of the weekend googling more royal recipes from their private chefs. One of them is a bread and butter pudding made with crustless bread and egg yolks which would have to be the most decadent/delicious version of that pudding I could ever dream of. Far more decadent than my version made with sandwich crusts, haha. There’s also a baked potato with cheese sauce situation that I am now forced to recreate myself as I can’t live another day without it.
I think my problem has been that I’m addicted to reading this biography of Kate I downloaded last week. Every time I read one thing that happened, I’m off googling pictures of it (fact-checking, you see… this biography appears mostly legit), until I’m reading all of a blog’s 2011 posts on what the pair were up to, and back issues of Pippa’s Vanity Fair columns on cricket. I was deep, man. That internet appears to never end.
And then they bust out pictures of the actual cutest children on Earth.
Well, besides this one, of course. Finally wearing a hat I made her last winter.
For two whole days of the long weekend I wrenched myself away from the book and interacted with real, non-royal people (funnily enough, that appears to be the only type of people I ever interact with), first with a road trip out to Rushworth to say hi to my fam out there, leave some flowers at my nana’s resting place on her 10th anniversary, and eat chips at the pub. I love that town, I know we’ve all moved far away from it, but I can’t help but keep going back. I need to Shinrin-yoku in their ironbark forests or something. It’s like a compulsion.
Day two was a hot chocolate with friends at CERES, and inspecting my cousin’s new CBD apartment. She’s just moved back from the UK where she married an English fella and now lives dangerously close to dumplings, so I’ll expect she’ll have me on her doorstep at least once a week. Not a bad view, though:
I mean, I’ve seen worse.
This week will probably be another hustle week as I’ve got some travel coming up, but not without another brownie cheesecake experiment. I made Michelle’s Chocolate Wheaty Biscuits yesterday, so someone will have to eat those. I think it will be a very food/play-focused week (I’m still the check-up patient, apparently there’s been a run of chickens living in my eyes) as it’s way too cold to go out, and I’m still trying to make meals from all my pantry stores. I just found ANOTHER bag of brown sugar.
Happy week, folks! What did you get up to over the long weekend? Want a piece of cheesecake brownie?
Wow what a view! What city is that? Will you be posting the cheesecake brownies receipe? Also another question, I have passion fruit coming out of my ears, you wouldn’t have a great passion fruit butter/curd receipe you could share would you?
It’s Melbourne! and yes, i’ve been experimenting with a little twist on the brownies, so once I nail it, I’ll put it up! So jealous of your passionfruit. I would make a passionfruit vanilla slice, or make passionfruit butter from this recipe http://www.cookrepublic.com/recipe-archive/passionfruit-butter/ and freeze the rest!
Love this post – laughed out loud!! And don’t they just have the 2 actual cutest children on Earth!!??? They do!!! xx
Oh they totally do. It’s insane!
Dear lord I have just gone and purchased that book and I suspect I might be even worse than you with all the googling!!!
hahah oh you’re in for a treat! I don’t want it to end!
Oh I’m so hungry after reading this! Do you think an eton mess would be acceptance dinner food? 🙂 #TeamIBOT
ABSOLUTELY TOTALLY!
I sleeeepppptttt. Well, vegged out watching tv or staring into space. All the same. But it was much needed after a bat shit crazy fortnight.
Oh sleep! I remember that!
What did I do? I hit up the new IKEA in town, yo! And we saw KANGAROOS on the way there. ‘Straya!
ha there used to be kangaroos at the uni I taught at. I spent my lunch hours stalking them and trying to take selfies.
I could have done with that bag of brown sugar. I could have sworn I had a fresh bag in my pantry but just when I needed it, it was no where to be seen 🙁
Well now I want to read the biography! It would make a welcome break from Game of Thrones which I’m currently enthralled in.
We spent the weekend friends on the west coast of SA and it was amazing. Perfect weather and company.
My daughter went to school today dressed as Kate and took a doll as baby Charlotte for the Multicultural Day they were having, channelling our British background – I had to provide Jammy Coconut Sponge for the royal feast, you might approve of that one! I’m going to have to get the book I think
Did you say baked potato with cheese sauce? What , where, why, how? I need it now. The biography of Kate sounds awesome and yes, your little monkey in her crocheted hat is just gorgeous 🙂
Brownie cheesecake or cheesecake brownie? Either way I would be happy.
I’ve never really considered myself a royalist or anything, but I really do find myself paying quite a bit of attention to them, especially Kate and Queenie.
I neeeeeed this book you speak of! You know I’m a huge Royalist!Im loving any form of brownie cheesecake, bring it on! Adorable smalls 🙂
Oh no….I may have just ordered the book on Kate (and two others on the royal family) whilst I sit here sipping tea out of my Kate and Wills mug! Oops…
hah me too, I ordered one on the queen!
