It’s been quiet here, huh? I’ve had a lot on my mind (and on my to-do list) so I’ve been re-evaluating some stuff. I still don’t know what I’m doing, or where I’m going, but I think I may arrive at a conclusion soon. I think. I hope!
While my brain’s been whirring and my heart’s been AWOL, I’ve just been trundling along, doing the mundane and finding relief in its mindless usefulness.
We’ve also been wallowing in all things rabbit, given the current household obsession with a certain bunny named Peter.
I’ve also pulled out my Bendigo Woollen Mills haul and been bizzay with a hook and some Netflix. First up on the menu was some crochet cotton dishcloths for Lentil and Matt, as part of their flower exchange. They don’t take money for their beautiful blooms, just swap for something else useful that they need.
I needed flowers (shut up I did) and they needed dishcloths. Thoughtful consumerism at its best.
One of us gets around without a stitch of clothing on.
She’s also toilet trained herself, so that’s a bonus.
I’ve been putting my new baby to good use, making lots of cakes, bread, lunchbox treats, and experimenting with sourdough. There have been MANY, MANY sourdough fails. I’ll get there.
We’ve started getting our Whole Larder Love seasonal veggie boxes again, so there’s been a lot of blanching, freezing, preserving, soup-making and general chip-eating going on.
A friend of mine also gave me a couple of kilos of homegrown tomatoes, so I’ve topped up my mason jar collection, and have lots of passata/barbecue sauce/pasta sauce/enchilada sauce/salsa in my near future, to join the ketchup and relish in the pantry. I love this time of year!
The big kid started kindergarten (which she ADORES) so Smalls and I have been getting our groove on. Leaving the house with only one kid is like a holiday! We’ve been throwing ourselves into two-year-old world and it’s been a ton of fun.
So, it’s slow. It’s quiet. I’ve been struggling a bit with how to fit my responsibilities in, and while I’ve not got the answer, I’ve been enjoying letting the question marinate while I create some space. The reading, the crochet (the poncho is DONE!), the warm-weather walks, the trips to the library, the cooking, the binge-watching random TV shows (Alaskan Bush People and Benefits Britain, anyone?), and the intentional wasting of time has all been good for the soul. I don’t quite know what to do with VM yet, but I’m sure the answer will present itself. Just one more episode of T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle.
I’ve felt your quietness. I hope whatever the answer is after all your brain whirring is… A happy place. (And that VM isn’t going anywhere.) x
Kind words, Rainbird. Thanks. The whirring is tiring!
Ive missed you
I was just thinking about you the other day! Hope you’re smiling 🙂
Am smiling, life is good 🙂
I LOVE THIS!
I like that you are letting things simmer and not getting stressed. I think you would miss VM ? Even if you pop in when you feel like it we would follow.
I would definitely miss it, that’s one conclusion I’ve come to! I might just be a bit quieter around here. Thanks so much for following along <3
Aaah, change is exhausting and annoying but you can’t deny the soul when it needs to grow. Lovely to bake and craft and play your way through it. Great therapy 😉 x
It’s such a weird feeling! I don’t like it, but I like the outcome 🙂
Keep rolling with it!
Yes ma’am!
Sometimes everything can get a bit hohum… But good to know that you are ok and letting things process in your head slowly. oxox
I figure the answer usually appears when I stop thinking about it! an excuse to read more books, anyway. That’s always good. Thanks for your comment 🙂
If you work out the magic formula on how to fit your responsibilities in, please share, m’kay?
Hahah I kind of have figured out what works for us. It’s taken a load off 🙂
Beautiful photos Veggie. xx
Thankee kindly Mrs Slim
Slow is good. Slow is restorative. You can’t keep going going going and expect to survive. But don’t give up just yet, ok? P.S bagels please. Give bagels a go.
Like to eat, or to make? cos you can make these ones (and post them to me!) http://theveggiemama.com/2011/01/jalapeno-bagels/
Slow is good for the soul sweets ,you do what you’ve got to do to make YOU happy Xx
Amen!
I’m just glad you are oK. Your quietness had me a little worried xx
I’ve missed you gorgeous. I hope you find some answers to your wonderings. Xx
Sometimes life just goes too fast. It’s good to go slow. Whatever makes you happy, do that. Happy is good. PS I missed you.
My brain has been going too…mostly in slow motion thanks to the baby but I think I have been making some progress? Maybe? I feel like I am kind of in a two steps forward, one step back pattern.
Anyway, let me know when you have it all figured out…maybe hearing about your grand plan can shed some light on my situation.
And in the meantime, slow is good. As in intentional wasting of time…I watched a few episodes of Man V Food the other day.
You simply must check out my passata post before you put those mason jars to good use. The Nonnis make it each year in the traditional way and this year they let me blog about it. Soooooo good. Just the whole ritual of it. I love it so. Glad your big is loving Kindy – it’s such a relief when it goes well. x
I too have missed your damn pretty face. Enjoy the slower pace and know that the right answer will come along at the right time. x
I totally understand slow. Take it easy. xx
Thank you 🙂
I have to see this Alaskan Bush people. My Hawaiian friend just told me about it after I just told him about Turtle Man. Netflix is so good. I’m usually folding the laundry at night while watching something addictive.
I can’t believe how invested I got in their story! how anyone can live outside in that much snow… no idea.
Um that flowers for dishclothes set up is THE BOMB! Now I want to find someone to swap flowers for baked treats {because I’m not too handy with the old knitting needles/croche hook}. Oh and I heard that you are mentoring a fellow Canberra Blogger {Love Wednesday} – we played netball against each other the other night.
Oh cool! and yes I wanted to swap food but they’re farmers, so they’ve got food down pat. Crochet was the only thing I could think of! Such an awesome initiative.
Now I’m curious what this dish cloth looks like. I saw some made out of corn husks today and I really, really wish Whole Larder Love delivered to Sydney. I love my veg box, but…
They’re quite sweet! And I know … it killed me being in Queensland. http://www.petalstopicots.com/2013/06/quick-and-easy-dishcloth-patterns/
That flower exchange is such a rad idea! I would looove to get my wedding flowers this way but I have no idea what I have worth trading? Wah!
