The other day, Chantelle at Fat Mum Slim asked her readers to post a picture of where they blog. Was it outside in the sunshine? Kitchen table? on their phones?
Me? Well, I blog in a corner of the lounge and I couldn’t bear to post a photo, because there was nothing cute about where I blog. Nothing at all. Lookit! I knew it was getting out of hand, but I had chosen to work on other areas of the house first… even though the sight of that bookcase was making my eye twitch. Thanks Chantelle, for giving me a kick up the bum… metaphorically speaking.
Anyway, I was scrolling through the photos and found Tania McCartney‘s photo and I was all “homegirl has fresh flowers on her desk? I want fresh flowers!” and just generally captivated by her workspace in general. I like pretty and whimsy and creativity and whatnot. I got up and ruthlessly started hurling things down from the wall (by ruthless, I mean ruthless, by hurling, I mean putting down gently), and getting everything off the desk and bookcase. I only put back what I wanted and I even packed some things away in boxes because if I didn’t I would have to buy a new bookshelf to house all my printed beauties, and ain’t nobody got time for that before an interstate move.
Speaking of interstate move, I didn’t want to do anything to this space that would require extra work before leaving, and we’re only going to be here four more months. I also am conscious of what goes up on the walls and things because it is very much part of the lounge room and too much is too much, y’know? I originally had one of the bedrooms as an office, but then I started working from home and needed to be able to keep an eye on the goings-on. Then I got knocked up and there were no bedrooms left any more! I also don’t have a laptop (I KNOW) so am chained to the desk.
Meanwhile, I am going to have the girls share a room soon, but I think I will keep the desk out here until we leave anyway, rather than moving it all around for forty-five seconds. And after. Not my best work, but given the circumstances, a lot neater and brighter and nicer in general. No wonder my mojo ran off (possibly to Mexico, hopefully to drink a lot of tequila), how anybody could be creative in that loose-leaf pigsty is beyond me.
And do you know what I was forced to do amid the cleanout chaos? I finally sat down and organised all the little bits of paper sent to me from all the places in the world I have superannuation and rolled them all over into one account. I have had paper since 2006 in an effort to remind myself to actually do it. Next I’ll be moving into a retirement home and inquiring what days are Bingo ones, as I am officially an adult.
Oh and I also had a squiz at famous people’s desks on the slideshow at Vanity Fair and while I’m no Martha Stewart or Oprah (except in my head and on Pinterest), I am VERY Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and I’m beyond cool with that. Thuper. Thanks for athking.
Did you join in? Do you blog somewhere exotic? Are you Amish like me in regards to laptops?
