This is how we do it

October 10, 2017 by Stacey 2 Comments

Frontier Park Playground 8

Day two of term four and I am coming to you live from tired children adjusting and a premenstrual mother. Yay!

In all seriousness though, it may just be the PMS talking but I am finding these ages much more testing than any before it. Yes, even the terrible twos and the threenager situation … we escaped both of those developmental periods relatively unscathed. Perhaps it is the cumulative effect of almost 7 full years of whiny children leaving me with a fuse shorter than Danny DeVito? Nobody wants to eat their lunch or their dinner, wash their hands, go to bed, put the lids back on pens, get into the bath, get out of the bath, not hit their sister… it’s like a constant barrage of patience-testing and “NO” and then somebody crying and me scraping everyone’s dinner in the compost.

Yes this is parenthood. Yes it’s exhausting. Yes it’s about time my children who have hitherto been a relative breeze to parent finally put me through my paces. I will look back on this one day and laugh, yeah? Or maybe I’ll be too busy catching up on sleep.

The school holidays were great, we celebrated a birthday, watched a hell of a lot of Miraculous on Netflix, baked, ate, took picnics to the park, bought new paints, coloured, and picked wet playdough out of the cracks of the floorboards. Well, that was mostly me.

I also found a rad new hairdresser in Ascot Vale, Earth to Betty. Their salon is eco-friendly, sustainable, and vegan, which makes me so bloody happy. We’re going to be doing some work together and my greys are celebrating their extraordinary fortune. They are like, a completely different texture to the rest of my hair so need extra attention to ensure I don’t look 100% like Veronica Crabtree, bless her. Just my usual 87%

I haven’t the heart to pack up the full Sylvanian Families wonderland the girls spread out around the lounge during the holidays because it’s so damn cute. I wanted it so badly as a kid and now to see tiny flocked bunnies sitting at a table laden with tiny cakes and cups and babies in bed inside houses with lights and fireplaces that really light up is really very pleasing.

Ok so Bigs has just asked to see how big my brain is so I’d best be off. Make sure to enter my Body Shop giveaway before tomorrow when it ends – I would love for you to smell like an English rose garden in summertime too! Not that I’ll be smelling you… I’ll take your word for it.

I know that I have much less patience for the current 3 & 4 year old than I did when the older 2 were their age & I feel guilty about it all the time because patience has NEVER been my virtue ( hurry the fuck up is my virtue!). Years of broken sleep & clingy kids & throwing dinners out ( that just never seems to end at my place!) can really push you to your limits!!!

Aye, it sure can. And our ability to deal with it waxed and wanes… and it’s alwaus a surprise when I’m grumpy because to don’t totally see it coming. Coping level minimal on those situations haha. Your first two weren’t born as close together as the others yeah? I think that can make a difference in the cling-exhaustion level x
